Me, on a random bench near Republic Square in Yerevan, Armenia (September, 2024)

Hi, my name is Phương.

I’m Vietnamese, currently based in Saigon, Vietnam.

I got a BA in Tourism in Bangkok — mostly because I didn’t know what to study. I ended up spending seven years studying and working in Thailand, and honestly, it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I didn’t use the degree much, but that didn’t matter — the life experience was worth so much more.

Growing up, I was always obsessed with stationery, but never in my life did I imagine making a living from it. I first picked up a brush pen in 2015, and that was when I discovered what was called brush pen calligraphy. One thing led to another, I moved on to pointed pens, and calligraphy has become my absolute favorite hobby ever since.

Fast forward to early 2023 — I moved back to Vietnam to start creating cute little things for weddings and events. Occasionally, I also teach and host modern calligraphy workshops.

My go-to script for practice is Engrosser’s Script. It’s a classic style that helps improve technical skills and provides a solid foundation for most of the freestyle lettering I’ve developed over the years. They say, “Be skilled before being creative.” Kind of true, to some extent.

My approach to design is simple: do what I’m best at. That means the focal point of my designs is always the handwritten elements, with everything else kept decorative and minimal. Thanks to incredible clients and collaborators, I’ve been able to explore different mediums and styles, which has broadened my sense of possibility.

It’s been a lovely journey, adding a little extra joy to people’s special days. I’m deeply grateful to those who have trusted me, and for the friends I’ve made through our shared love of calligraphy and stationery.

Honestly? It still feels surreal sometimes. I think as long as I still love to write, I’ll keep creating — and delighting you and your guests with my handwriting.

Love,
Phương
